6. Objectives
6.1 To achieve the strategic aim, the authority's objectives in relation to active travel, walking and cycling, are:

| 1 | Secure inward investment towards the costs of providing new and upgraded active travel infrastructure including footways, footpaths, cycle tracks and enhancements to the wider public realm |
| 2 | Utilise available funding to implement Local Cycling and Walking infrastructure Plans and Green Wheel master plans giving priority to routes that serve schools, mainline rail stations and town centres |
| 3 | Progressively improve the ‘walkability’ of streets, reducing car dominance in residential areas and increasing the distance resident’s walk and cycle for all purposes |
| 4 | Remove restrictive barriers on paths and cycle tracks and improve the accessibility of all frequently local destinations to people travelling on foot or by bike |
| 5 | Within five years, reduce by half the number of collisions on the authority’s highway network that result in serious or fatal injuries to children and young people travelling on foot or by bike |
| 6 | Reduce by a third the number of residents of all ages who cite concerns over personal safety as the reason for not travelling actively to local destinations |
| 7 | Improve air quality with a focus on roads and streets that are host to schools |
| 8 | Promote effective ‘placemaking’ by rating all future development plans against the standards set out in Active Travel England’s inspection framework for the quality of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure |
