Bedfordshire Minerals and Waste Plan Scoping Consultation
Introduction
Central Bedfordshire Council, Bedford Borough Council and Luton Borough Council are working together to prepare a new Bedfordshire Minerals and Waste Plan, looking ahead to 2050.
Where do the sand, gravel and other materials used to build homes and roads come from? What happens to waste after it is collected? These are some of the questions the new plan will help address.
What is a Minerals and Waste Plan?
The purpose of the plan is to sustainably manage minerals and waste development across Bedfordshire. For minerals, this can include places such as quarries, sand and gravel pits, as well as sites where materials are stored or processed.
The plan will help identify:
- what minerals and waste facilities Bedfordshire is likely to need in the future
- where different types of minerals and waste development may be needed
- the policies that future proposals will need to meet
- how potential impacts on local communities, roads, the environment and Bedfordshire’s towns and countryside should be considered
What Type of Comments Can I Submit?
You can submit any comments that you think are relevant to future minerals and waste planning across Bedfordshire, including:
- mineral extraction;
- waste processing and recycling sites;
- quarry restoration; and
- other relevant land use and development matters
Note that household waste collection is managed through separate council operational services. The minerals and waste plan will not cover every day local recycling or reuse services managed through our kerbside collections. Instead, it will focus on strategic facilities needed to process waste at a wider level - designating sites dedicated to recycling, composting, waste transfer, energy recovery and waste-water treatment.
This questionnaire allows you to submit your views on up to five issues/topics and propose one site for development. If you wish to provide more comments or sites, please submit this form and then complete another.
